Hi! I’m Moira… a cook, a baker, and an author of two cookbooks.
In the last year or two, I’ve started making a shift in the way I’m cooking. I want really delicious, interesting food but at the same time I want it to be good for myself and my family. I want to be full of energy and I want to feel good in my own skin, all without sacrificing my love of good food. It’s a fine balance for sure, but an important one that I believe many people would like to achieve in their own lives. It is with this in mind that I am coming back to my website, reignited with a desire and a purpose to live a healthy AND delicious life.
I began writing about food in 2007 on a blog that was near and dear to my heart – The Good Egg. The Good Egg lasted for several years until I decided to leave the comfort of “the good egg” and venture out under my own name.
In 2010, The Harrow Fair Cookbook was published by Whitecap Books and it went on to become a national best-seller (yay!) and a silver medal winner at the Cuisine Canada Cookbook Awards. I wrote the book with my sister Lori McDonald and my cousin Beth Goslin-Maloney.
My second book was published in 2014, a solo project that was more than two years in the making. The Kitchen Table Cookbook is full of amazing recipes, collected stories and lists on everything from winning a baking contest to the perfect kitchen playlist.
Many people have asked me if I’m writing my next cookbook and the answer for now is “not yet”, “maybe someday”, “we’ll see”… Writing a cookbook isn’t something to be entered into lightly and for now I’m enjoying other food/work experiences. I’m currently doing sales and consulting for Provisions Food Company, a fabulous food business based out of Niagara, Ontario which happens to be owned by my sister. I’m raising my kids with my husband Alan and I’m over-the-moon about our golden retriever, Freedom. I’m happiest when I’m looking through cookbooks and in the warmer months, I can often be found in my garden. It’s a good life.
